However, this statement only holds true for circulated examples because, in Mint State, the 1942/1 Dime is one of the rarest of all the Mint State Mercury Head. The Mercury Dime is also commonly referred to as the Winged Liberty Head Dime and was designed by Adolph Weinman. This dime is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The quality of the strike and the visual appeal it gives a coin is noticed and considered by collectors and with this coin boldly raised its value. Mercury dimes are very popular ten-cent pieces produced by the United States Mint from 1916 to 1945. The desirability and rarity of this coin is evident by achieving a value far above the $40 to $50 price of a weakly struck piece. Active bidding settled on $632 as the final price.
